Accessibility
Accessibility statement
This statement applies to the Changing Lanes Limited website, the learner and employer portals and the staff console. We want as many people as possible to be able to use them. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
How accessible this service is
We believe the service meets most of WCAG 2.2 AA, but it has not yet been fully tested with assistive technology, so we describe it as partially conformant. In particular you should be able to:
- use every page, form, menu and control with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator;
- skip straight to the main content from the top of every page;
- use every page at 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways (except wide data tables, which scroll inside their own box);
- read all text with a contrast ratio of at least 5:1 against its background (above the 4.5:1 WCAG minimum);
- rely on form labels, hints and error messages being linked to their fields, so assistive technology can announce them, and be taken to a summary of errors;
- turn off animation and smooth scrolling with your device's reduced-motion setting;
- paste into password and security-code fields and use your browser or password manager to fill forms;
- use the cookie banner and the “Report a problem” window with a keyboard: the window keeps focus inside it while open, closes with Escape and returns you to where you were.
How we tested it
We last tested the service on 27 September 2026. Every page in the service — public pages and every learner, employer and staff screen — is checked on desktop and mobile screen sizes, each time the code changes, by:
- automated checks with axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules;
- automated keyboard tests that tab through every interactive element, check the focus order, the focus indicator and that nothing traps or hides the focus;
- a colour-contrast check of every visible piece of text as it is actually displayed.
Automated tests cannot find every problem. People have not yet tested the service with screen readers.
Known limitations
- We have not yet completed a manual walkthrough with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack) or checked every page at 400% zoom. This is planned before public launch.
- Downloadable certificate PDFs are not yet tagged for screen readers. The same information is available on the certificate page and on the public verification page.
- Some staff tables are wider than a small screen. They scroll sideways inside their own box rather than the whole page.
Reasonable adjustments
If you need learning materials, assessments or interviews in a different format, tell us in your application or contact enquiries@changinglanes.example.
Reporting accessibility problems
If you find something you cannot use, or you need information in a different format, email enquiries@changinglanes.example or use our contact form, or choose “Report a problem” at the bottom of any page and pick “Accessibility problem”. Tell us the page address and what went wrong. We aim to reply within five working days.
Statement prepared 25 September 2026 and last reviewed 27 September 2026 after an accessibility audit. It will be reviewed again after the manual screen-reader testing, before public launch and after every major release.
