About this statement

Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires organisations with a turnover of £36 million or more to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement. Changing Lanes Limited is below that threshold; we publish this voluntary statement because the transport and logistics sector carries known risks of labour exploitation and because we recruit drivers for employers. Financial year covered: [to be confirmed: financial year].

Our business

We train HGV drivers in England and help them into permanent jobs with employers (as an employment agency). Our supply chain includes vehicle and yard providers, medical providers, instructors and subcontractors, technology providers and, where relevant, funding bodies and lead providers.

Risks

The main risks we have identified are: exploitation of drivers after placement (for example fees charged to workers, withheld pay or documents, excessive hours); subcontracted training delivery; and suppliers of services used in training.

What we do

  • No fees to work-seekers: we never charge work-seekers and require employers not to (Employer terms of business).
  • Employer verification: every employer is checked before any vacancy is published, and every vacancy is moderated for accurate pay, hours and conditions.
  • Check-ins after placement: we contact placed drivers at weeks 1, 4 and 12; issues about pay, hours or conduct are routed to a named member of staff, and signs of exploitation are handled as safeguarding concerns (Safeguarding policy).
  • Right to work: we check right to work for our own staff and remind employers of their legal duty.
  • Suppliers: we expect suppliers to comply with the Modern Slavery Act and may end relationships where they do not.
  • Training: staff are trained to recognise signs of modern slavery and how to report them.
  • Whistleblowing: concerns can be raised confidentially (Whistleblowing policy). The Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline is 08000 121 700.

Approval

This statement is to be approved by the board and signed by [to be confirmed: director responsible for policy sign-off], and will be reviewed each year.
